Welcome to Knightcastle. We are a small home-based kennel, fully devoted to the black flat-coated retriever, a wonderful dog who's life depends on happiness and exercise. The flat-coated is also, by nature, an excellent retriever, especially with ducks. It's a very popular hunting dog in Europe, but almost unknown here in America. The flat-coated retriever is the perfect dog to have in the house, also with children. Always happy and ready for action, he will never let you down.
I currently have four dogs at home, Darwin, Nova, Céleste and Baxter, they are full time members of our family. The new one, Tora, who lives in Nova Scotia, is also part of Knightcastle's breeding program. They are very active dogs and are in excellent health. All our dogs are tested and certified by the 'Orthopedic Foundation For Animals' (OFA) and the 'Canine Eye Registration Foundation' (CERF).
We produce puppies only time to time, mainly to fulfil my own needs. But my breeding program is very serious and I use dogs only from Europe, mainly Netherlands and soon Great-Britain. We use the 'Bio Sensor' program, developped by the US Army, to stimulate new born puppies.
My training program includes obedience, conformation, hunt tests and tracking. I train and handle my dogs myself. We are active in Canada and the USA. I am also a CKC certified judge in hunt tests and working certificates for retrievers. On a personnal note, in January 2008 I began judging my first sanctionned matches. One day, I'll be an obedience judge too. When you become a part of the Knightcastle family, you are encouraged in every way possible to succeed and have a happy life with your dog.
Each litter was carefully planned, based on thoughtful consideration of the quality, the pedigree, accomplishments, hip, elbows, patellar (OFFA) and eye (CERF) clearances of both the Sire and the Dam to produce sound puppies of correct type, with good working ability and a cheerful and outgoing personality. In short, the perfect companion for you.
Registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, micro-chipped and health guaranteed and solely sold on CKC non-breeding (for pet companion) or co-ownership agreements (for dogs part of my breeding program). The puppies will leave for their pre-selected homes at around 9 weeks of age to live their new dog 's life.
Enjoy your visit, Yvan Ruel.
